About Us

The Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts (LHUCA) is a non-profit arts center located at 511 Avenue K in the heart of the Lubbock Cultural District. Operating as a major catalyst for downtown revitalization, LHUCA serves over 75,000 visitors annually by cultivating the visual, performing, and literary arts across the South Plains of West Texas.

The expansive campus features premier facilities:
- Four main fine art galleries hosting 20+ annual exhibitions.
- The 159-seat Firehouse Theatre for concerts, plays, and films.
- The multipurpose Christine DeVitt Icehouse for large events.
- A community Clay Studio, Education Building, and outdoor plaza.

LHUCA is widely celebrated as the organizer of the First Friday Art Trail, a massive, self-guided monthly art event that draws more than 5,000 people to downtown Lubbock for live music, food, and gallery viewings. Beyond public exhibitions, the center partners with Texas Tech University and local K-12 schools to provide summer camps, community art classes, and seasonal festivals like the Hub City Renaissance Faire.Admission to LHUCA galleries is always free to the public, keeping local culture accessible. The galleries remain open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., inviting creators of all ages to engage, learn, and grow. Whether you want to view regional contemporary art, attend an indie film screening, or try a hands-on pottery class, LHUCA is Lubbock's premier destination to experience the arts.
