Top 3 Reasons to Attend Civic and Public Leadership Academy

The Civic and Public Leadership Academy is a half-day, all-encompassing training for people who want to make a difference in their community. Whether in elected office or in other roles, there are several ways for leaders to get involved. Below are the top three reasons to attend this year’s academy, held on Thurs., May 13 from 11:30 a.m - 5 p.m.

You (or someone you know) might be interested in running for office
Have you thought about serving on the school board, city council, commissioner’s court, or in another elected office? The Civic and Public Leadership Academy will allow you to hear directly from current and former elected officials about their experiences running for and holding office. You’ll also learn about the nuts and bolts of what it will take to win on the campaign trail. This could be exactly what you need to either pull the trigger on running for office, or it may help you realize that a different role would be best for you.

You want to work or volunteer for political campaigns
Attendees will hear from seasoned campaign veterans about strategies, polling, communications, and other basics that campaign operatives need to know. Maybe running for office isn’t for you, but working for a campaign can be a fulfilling experience instead. Come network with potential candidates and learn from the expert insights of our speakers at the Civic and Public Leadership Academy.

You want to make a difference outside of elected office
There are several ways to serve the public or be involved in the political process without running for office or working on a campaign. You can find a local or statewide board or commission to serve on, get involved with a civic group or trade association, or even work as a staffer to an elected official or get involved with a political action committee (PAC). We will have speakers who have insights on all the above and can help you find the best way to make an impact.

Chamber members can register for this year’s Civic and Public Leadership Academy for $30, which includes lunch. We hope to see you on May 13!
