Are you interested in running for local office, or do you know somebody who is? Do you want to learn about ways to engage in politics and policy outside of elected office? This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about the requirements and best practices of running as a candidate or a participant in a political campaign, be it for an elected official seat or a ballot measure. The program is non-partisan in nature and provides the basics of running for local office and getting involved in the political process.
We will have a panel of current and former elected officials including Mayor David Langston, Mayor Pro Tem Steve Massengale, and Lubbock ISD trustee Beth Bridges discuss life in the public eye. We will also have speakers with expertise in campaign data, campaign law, and media training.
If running for office isn't your thing, we also cover how to get involved on boards and commissions in the Lubbock community for those interested in serving in a different capacity, or for those wanting to get involved with ballot initiatives or working for campaigns.
Sponsorships allow tuition to be kept affordable: contact Kyle Jacobson with the Chamber if interested. The graduates of this Academy include elected officials at the County, City, and School Board levels of government.
