Turtle Race Day Championship

Have you ever seen a turtle with the “Need for Speed”? Well now’s your chance! Join the Science Spectrum for the inaugural Turtle Race Day Championship on June 1st from 2:00pm-4:00pm in the Science Spectrum Atrium! In celebration of National Turtle Races Day, the museum's collection of turtle and tortoise speedsters will be on display and competing for the coveted “Shell-abration Cup”! From 2:00pm-3:00pm visitors will have the opportunity to view the competitors and learn more about these amazing athletes. Guests will then make their winning predictions for each race and fill out a race bracket. At 3:00pm the checkered flag will be waved, and the first of 5 heats will begin! Stick around to see the championship race and who will be crowned top Testudine! Visitors who guess all brackets correctly will be entered into a drawing to win tickets to see the latest film in the OMNI Theater, Journey to the South Pacific, featuring a variety of sea turtles! Turtle Race Day at the Science Spectrum is a FREE event and will be located in the Science Spectrum Atrium. Other free activities will include turtle themed crafts and hands-on activity stations. Guests can discover the difference between turtles and tortoises, plus have an opportunity to see and touch real turtle and tortoise shells. While you’re here, visitors can check out additional resident turtles on display in the museum's collection of live animals and aquariums on the bottom floor of the museum, or take in a showing of Journey to the South Pacific in the OMNI Theater. Journey to the South Pacific will take moviegoers on a breathtaking adventure to the lush tropical islands of remote West Papua, where life flourishes above and below the sea. Join Jawi, a young island boy, as he takes us on a journey of discovery to this magical place where we encounter whale sharks, sea turtles, manta rays, and other iconic creatures of the sea.
